Rev. Paul Anderson
Paul was born in Lewiston, Idaho in 1946, the third child in a family of five boys. When he was 10, he moved to Kennewick, Washington and graduated from high school there in 1965. He received a BA in Religious Thought from The University of Pennsylvania in 1969, and a Master of Divinity from Luther Seminary in 1974. He was ordained on July 24, 1974 at First Lutheran Church in Kennewick, Washington.
His first parish was Hope Lutheran in Summit, South Dakota. After serving at West Koshkonong,he primarily did Intentional Interim Ministry, serving congregations in Anacortes, Opportunity, Everett, Seattle, Lynnwood and Vashon Island – all in Washington. He then served a call in Kennewick, Washington while his children went to middle and high school. After that he served again in Interim Ministries in Lewiston, Idaho, and Deer Park, Cheney, Conway, Arlington, Woodinville, Marysville, North Lakewood, and Monroe – all again in Washington. He is currently serving as Interim Pastor in Redmond, Washington.
While in Lewiston, in 2003 he received a BA in Psychology from Lewis Clark State College, and then in 2006 received an MA in Community Counseling from Gonzaga University. Paul worked as a Mental Health Counselor for 4 years.
Paul married Martha (Lund) in Chicago on December 29, 1972. On January 1, 1973 they started work with Children’s Home Society of Minnesota as house parents of a group home for unwed teen mothers who had kept their babies. Martha received a BA in Math and Art from Saint Olaf College in 1973. Martha has taught math and preschool and has directed preschools and child care centers. Her work as a director led her into working in Early Childhood Education in Idaho and Washington’s Quality Rating and Improvement Systems. She retired in January 2018 after supervising that work in Snohomish County, Washington.
Their son, Aaron, was born in 1975 in Watertown, South Dakota. Aaron has a BA in Psychology from Pomona College (1996) and a J.D. law degree from The University of Washington (2004). He is currently Director of Development for Year Up – Puget Sound.
Their daughter, Kajsa, was born in Stoughton in 1979. Kajsa is married to David Roberts and lives in College Place, Washington. She is working on a BA in Community Health from Boise State University. They have a daughter, Penny (11), from David’s previous marriage, and a son, Jonah (5).
Martha and Paul own a home in Everett, Washington in a development with 2 small lakes and enjoy the view from their deck and walking around the lakes in good weather. They have eleven raised beds (about 300 square feet) and organically grow a variety of vegetables – they also have raspberries, strawberries, blueberries and huckleberries. They enjoy playing a little golf and do some camping, hiking and fishing. In rainy or snowy weather they keep busy with reading, doing puzzles, playing games and working on projects in their home.
