Rev. Roger H. Black
Pastor Roger Harold Black was born Nov. 19, 1952 in Pontiac, IL. Pastor Black grew up as the middle son of three on a farm in central Illinois. He married Pamela Ann Johnson in 1974. Pam also grew up in Illinois (Glen Ellyn). Pastor Black and Pam have 2 daughters and 6 grandchildren. Christy graduated from Stoughton High School. Christy is married to Doug Keele and they have three children, Nora (12), Colin (10), and Ella (6). They live in Wausau where Doug is an orthopedic surgeon and Christy is an attorney who does guardian and litem work and leads an agency working in Marathon County to use art to reach people in need. Kari and her husband Andy also have three children, Julia (11), Brynn (10), and Cameron (6). They reside in Sun Prairie, WI. Andy works as an assistant engineer for Sun Prairie Utilities and Kari teaches nursing at UW in Madison, WI.
Pam taught school while they lived in Stoughton and currently has her own LLC called Trauma Sensitive Education where she writes and gives presentations on recognizing the effects and working to change the results of trauma with schools and students.
Pastor Black graduated from St. Olaf College, Northfield MN with a BA in 1974, Lutheran Seminary, St. Paul MN, MDV 1978, was ordained 1978, was Associate Pastor at Abiding Savior, Milwaukee, WI from August 1978-September 1984, and Pastor at West Koshkonong Lutheran Church, Stoughton, WI from Sept. 1984-Aug. 1994. Pastor Black completed a Ph. D degree in historical theology in 1996 at Marquette. While completing his Ph. D, he did a series of interim ministries and in 2000 received a call to St. Stephen In Antioch, IL. He remained there until 2006 when he returned to interim ministry in the Greater Milwaukee Synod, serving there primarily until his most recent interim at Hope Lutheran Church in Milton, WI, which he completed in June of 2018. On June 11, 2018, he retired from full time ministry to work at Bethel Lutheran church in Madison, where he has been assisting in the visitation of parishioners, does some preaching and presiding at various services and assists and supports the current staff. In March of 2019, while still assisting at Bethel, he started as a Bridge Pastor at All Saints Lutheran Church in Fitchburg while they go through the final stages of the call process of finding a new permanent pastor.
Pastor Black & Pam are big Packer and Badger fans, enjoy working out, jogging, golfing and many spectator sports. They also enjoy movies and travel to visit many long-time friends. They currently live in Windsor, WI.
